The Truth Behind Axon’s “One-Year” Price: What They Don’t Tell You

When evaluating Axon’s Fleet 3 in-car video system, many agencies are drawn in by the advertised “one-year” pricing for features like mobile ALPR. But here’s what that number doesn’t tell you:
To access ALPR capabilities, you must first purchase or rent the Fleet 3 hardware—an already costly commitment. Then, to activate ALPR, Axon requires you to sign a three- to five-year contract, bundling ALPR as an add-on to a multi-year subscription.
This means:
You can’t buy ALPR as a standalone tool—you must first invest in their video system.
You can’t pay annually or opt out after a year—despite how they present the pricing.
You’re locked into a multi-year agreement with escalating costs, even if your needs or budget change.
You will end up spending $13,500-$18,000 to rent a product when you can secure an ai4 system for 1/3 the cost and you own it.
In short: what’s advertised as a “one-year” cost is actually the first payment in a long, expensive commitment. This kind of pricing structure can be hard to justify for agencies looking for flexibility, transparency, and true cost-effectiveness.
At Aeye Systems, we take a different approach:
✅ One simple price.
✅ No hidden hardware requirements.
✅ Lifetime warranty included.
✅ Cancel anytime software.
Because transparency isn't just good business—it's what law enforcement deserves.
